Dental sedation is especially beneficial for nervous patients or complex dental procedures. When you’re nervous, your pain threshold drops, causing hypersensitivity to even minor sensations, sounds and pricks. Anxiety and terror cause your body to generate biochemicals such as adrenaline, which might activate your fight or flight response. You expect something that will cause great agony so your muscles tighten even when no pain is present.
All unpleasant sensations fade with dental sedatives, leaving you peaceful and comfortable in the dentist’s chair.

Types of sedation
At Cosmo Dental Clinic, we offer such types of sedation: nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas), oral minimal and oral moderate sedation, which works quickly and can help with dental anxiety during cleanings and fillings. Although you’ll be awake during the procedure, you will be less aware of what’s happening, which can help you feel more relaxed.
Some dental extractions, like wisdom teeth extractions, can be performed with minimal or moderate sedation using an orally administered medication.
Some Dental procedures, like wisdom teeth extractions in highly anxious patients or difficult extractions, can be performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation, where the patient will be under a deeper level of sedation or asleep. Although we do not offer this type of sedation at our facility, we can arrange and make a referral for the patient to be seen for this type of procedure at the facility where this is provided.
